Skin Resurfacing Q&A

What is CO2 skin resurfacing?

CO2 skin resurfacing is a laser treatment that addresses both surface skin issues and problems in the deeper skin layers to produce a dramatic transformation. This type of laser treatment involves the removal of damaged tissue in a very controlled manner to allow new, younger, and more architecturally appropriate tissue to grow back in its place.

The fractional CO2 creates microscopic holes in the treatment areas, which stimulates skin renewal throughout all skin layers while minimizing side effects and downtime.

At Colorado Skin and Vein, the team uses the industry’s most advanced CO2 laser, the Lumenis Encore, to achieve spectacular results. It can give you the cosmetic benefits of a facelift without having to undergo surgery.

What skin problems does CO2 skin resurfacing treat?

CO2 skin resurfacing can help with most types of skin damage, including:

  • Superficial and Deep Wrinkles
  • Skin Laxity
  • Poor skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • cars
  •
  • Hyperpigmentation

The laser removes the damaged layers of skin while stimulating the dermal skin layer to create new collagen (the protein that keeps your skin firm and “filled”). This approach allows new healthy skin to move to the surface while filling in depressed areas like lines and scars.

What is the process for CO2 skin resurfacing?

During CO2 skin resurfacing, you’ll receive a mild sedative to help you relax. Local anesthesia prevents pain during the resurfacing procedure. You’ll wear special goggles to shield your eyes from the laser light.

The team guides the handheld CO2 laser over your face, evenly treating all areas while focusing on any particular areas of concern. Most CO2 treatments also include other ancillary treatments, such as vein removal or treatment of precancerous lesions, to ensure the best possible global result. Because you’ll be a bit drowsy afterward, you must have a driver take you home.

What is the recovery process after CO2 resurfacing?

After CO2 laser resurfacing, it’s normal to have redness and swelling. For the first 24 hours, expect some pinpoint bleeding from the fractional portion of the treatment. You’ll develop tiny scabs that shed as your new healthy skin rises. Over the next couple of weeks, as your skin heals, you’ll experience smoother and more youthful skin.

Most patients need around a week of recovery before returning to makeup and their regular activities. This is far shorter than the recovery time needed after a facelift, and the results can be just as impressive.

Your results will get better and better as you produce fresh collagen over the next several months, but you will instant, dramatic improvement in lines, texture, pigmentation, and tightness.

Colorado Skin and Vein boasts one of the top five CO2 providers in the country. Dr. Verebelyi was one of the first in the country to provide CO2 and has trained a generation of CO2 providers.
