How Long Does Kybella® Take To Work?

There are few body parts patients are commonly unhappy with that create as much insecurity and emotional distress as a double chin, particularly because there are limits to what patients can do on their own to diminish it.

There are few body parts patients are commonly unhappy with that create as much insecurity and emotional distress as a double chin, particularly because there are limits to what patients can do on their own to diminish it. This is not an area you can work out to reduce stubborn fat. Kybella® is an FDA-approved non-surgical treatment to reduce the double chin.

How Does Kybella® Work?

The double chin, or submental fullness, can be particularly difficult to live with because it is almost impossible to lose that type of fat through diet and exercise. That’s why Kybella® is a great alternative option to remove this stubborn fat and slim down overall facial fullness.

Kybella® is made of deoxycholic acid which is a substance the body naturally produces. The acid targets fat cells, breaking down their membranes and causing cellular death. The body naturally filters away these damaged cells. The result is a smoother, more sculpted chin and jawline. Everyone’s jawline is different and will require a customized treatment by your medical provider for optimum results. Kybella is a series of treatments over time to reduce the volume in the jawline.

Am I a Good Candidate?

The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, which the body produces naturally. This means that there are few people who aren’t the right candidates for this treatment. If you have an active infection in the treatment area, it’s best to wait for it to heal before proceeding with Kybella®. Speaking to Christina Jordan FNP-C, CANS about your specific anatomy and aesthetic goals during a consultation is a great way to get started.

What is the Treatment Like?

Kybella® is an injectable medication introduced into the submental area of the upper neck, directly beneath the chin and along the jaw. As the fat cell membranes are disrupted, the body’s natural metabolic system sweeps them away, reducing your submental fat. Patients will require more than one treatment to achieve optimal results, but once you’re pleased with the outcome, additional maintenance treatments are not required.

Is There Any Downtime?

The appointment itself is relatively quick, taking only 15-20 minutes to complete, and you’re free to resume back to business as usual. It’s normal to feel tenderness and swelling for 1-3 weeks, however this resolves on its own.

How Long Does Kybella® Take to Work?

The body needs time to filter away the disrupted fat cells, so visible results take a few weeks to become noticeable. You may notice slimming of the neck and a more chiseled jawline around 4-6 weeks, with continued improvement for a few more weeks.

Additional treatments will have cumulative results until the double chin is reduced. Since the body has a finite number of fat cells, those that are removed by Kybella® are permanently gone.

At Colorado Skin & Vein, Dr. Verebelyi and our team committed to giving our patients access to the most advanced, effective treatments for their cosmetic and vascular concerns. After receiving Kybella® treatments, most patients report positive emotional changes such as an increase in self-esteem. Increased self-esteem can have a positive effect on social and professional relationships. While Kybella® cannot improve the way people interact with you, your newfound confidence can give you the boost you need to hold your head up high and enjoy life knowing you look and feel your best.

"Everyone was great and will be back. I will recommend!"
