Scars are areas of fibrous, disorganized, or discolored tissue which replaced the normal tissue architecture after an injury. Scar revision requires different procedures in order to achieve the best cosmetic result. We treat acne scars, surgical scars, burn scars and those due to just about any type of trauma.
Effective therapy requires different procedures:
Fractional CO2 Skin Resurfacing: This is the gold standard for improving textural changes like those seen with acne scarring. The CO2 is used to remove the damaged tissue over the scar allowing healthy tissue to grow in its place. This is also a great procedure for stubborn hyperpigmentation associated with scarring.
CryoShape: This is one of the newest modalities in scar revision. It is specifically designed to improve Keloid scars by using liquid nitrogen to removal excess tissue and halt tissue regrowth.
Pulsed Dye Laser: For new wounds or red, raised scars the Pulsed Dye laser is the treatment of choice. It is used to reduce redness while decreasing excess collagen production resulting in smoother, flatter scars.
IPL and Q-switched Lasers: These devices are great for decreasing the darkening and hyperpigmentation associated with scarring to get skin back to its natural color.
Steroid Injections: Steroid injections are used in conjunction with other treatments for most raised scars. A combination of steroids and other factors are injected into the tissue to help turn off excess collagen production and reduce the thickness of the scar.
Subcision: The tissue is numbed with lidocaine and a small needle is used to free the inside of the scar attached to the tissue below, resulting in a smoother appearance.
Scar Recovery Gel: We have scoured the medical literature and used a multitude of products over the last 10 years. This one actually works. Silicone hydrates the skin while natural but powerful plant extracts reduce redness and keep the tissue soft while healing.
